On 11 November 2009, two Azerbaijani bloggers were found guilty on hooliganism and violence charges by a court in Baku and sentenced to two years and two years and a half prison respectively.
Bloggers and political activists Adnan Hajizade and Emin Abdullayev were arrested on 8 July 2009 on false charges of "hooliganism" after they had posted a video on YouTube mocking the purchase of donkeys from Germany by the Azeri Government.

Government attempts to block access to the Internet are mounting throughout Europe - but look set to backfire, a new study published on 22 October 2009 concludes.
The Open Society Institute funded the report which is titled "Internet Blocking: Balancing Cybercrime Responses in Democratic Societies." Four experienced professionals, Cormac Callanan of Ireland, Marco Gercke of Germany, Estelle De Marco of France, and Hein Dries-Ziekenheiner of the Netherlands, collaborated on the research.

In the negotiations surrounding the formation of a new conservative-liberal coalition in Germany following the recent elections, an agreement has been reached to postpone, for at least a year, the introduction of web blocking. As the law has already been adopted, the procedure by which the law will be stopped from entering into force has not yet been decided.

I was invited last week to a meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan by the Council of Europe that organized together with the local National TV and Radio Council in order to discuss some issues related to the regulation of online media.
The meeting took place on 4 June 2009 and the first part was dedicated to the local authorities (Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies or National TV and Radio Council) local Internet actors (The online news agency lent.az, or APA news agency) and NGOs (such as Azerbaijan Internet Forum or IREX Azerbaijan).

The Helsinki Administrative court decided on 20 May 2009 that complaints lodged in regards to the child-porn censorship list maintained by the Finnish Police are not allowed.
The case originates from one Finnish activist's "battle" against the censorship list maintained by the Finnish police and originally the censorship law passed by the Finnish Parliament in 2006, meant to combat child pornography.

The German Police searched the homes of Theodor Reppe, the owner of the domain name wikileaks.de, alleging he was under investigation for "distribution of pornographic material" and "discovery of evidence"
The seven police officers in Dresden and four in Jena having performed the searches in the evening of 24 March 2009 claimed the raid was initiated due to Mr. Reppe's position as the Wikileaks.de domain owner.
However, it is not clear what exact documents were targeted, because the German Police did not want to give any further information to Mr.

The German Federal Archives has donated almost 100 000 images to the Wikimedia Commons, as part of a cooperation between Wikimedia Germany and the Federal Archive. These images are mostly related to the history of Germany (including the Weimar Republic, the German colonial era, the Third Reich and Germany after reunification).
All the images are licensed Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 Germany License (CC-BY-SA).
